American film and television actress and producer Drew Barrymore was born on February 22, 1975 in Culver City, California. Parented by the famous Hollywood-royalty Barrymore family. Drew Barrymore's fame rests on a number of factors. She is the youngest member of one of Hollywood's most prestigious acting dynasties. Her grandfather is the legendary actor, matinee idol and writer John Barrymore; her great-aunt the Oscar-winning actress Ethel Barrymore, and her great-uncle the Oscar-winning actor Lionel Barrymore. Even her father, the actor-turned-poet John Jr., courted some fame, although his drug busts and failed marriages earned the lions share of public attention.
Before she was a year old, Barrymore had already appeared in her first commercial, and at the ripe old age of 4 snagged her first movie role in Alerted States.
Her most famous role come a few years later - as Gertie in Stephen Speilberg's E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), with more star assignments quickly following in Irreconcilable Differences and the film version of Stephen King's Firestarter.
Success bred excess: by age 10 she was using alcohol and marijuana, by 13 she was in rehab, and by 17 she was posing nude for Interview magazine. Despite her tabloid-fodder personal life, in her twenties she became a prolific and respected actress in films like Boys on the Side (1995), The Wedding Singer (1998, with Adam Sandler), Never Been Kissed (1999, with Jessica Alba) and the remake of Charlie's Angels (2000, with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu).
In 2005, Barrymore won for "Favorite On-Screen Chemistry" alongside Adam Sandler at the 2005 People's Choice Awards for her performance in Fifty First Dates.
Barrymore was married to Welsh bartender turned bar owner, Jeremy Thomas, from March 20 to April 28, 1994, and to comedian Tom Green from July 7, 2001 to October 15, 2002 (Green filed for divorce in December 2001).
